Tennessee Faces Nation's Worst Property Tax Hikes, Report Highlights Lack of Tax Cap
Tennessee has experienced the most significant property tax increases in the United States over the past six years, according to a recent report from the Beacon Center of Tennessee. The state is the only one in the nation with an increase exceeding 75%, significantly outpacing the next highest state, Colorado, by a double-digit margin. Locally, some areas have seen staggering hikes, such as Mt. Juliet with a 164% increase, Fairview with 42%, and Nashville homeowners experiencing a 60% rise in their bills over five years. This trend is attributed by the Beacon Center to Tennessee being one of only four states without a form of property tax cap, a protection present in 46 other states and Washington, D.C. A proposed cap failed to reach a vote in the statehouse last year.
