Possible Meteor Lights Up Sky Over Chicago Suburbs
Residents in the southwest suburbs of Chicago reported seeing a bright flash and hearing a loud boom on Thursday night, which may have been caused by a meteor. Footage captured by a doorbell camera in Bolingbrook showed the sky lighting up, followed by a streaking object. This event coincides with the ongoing Perseids meteor shower, which is expected to peak on August 12 and 13, potentially producing 50 to 100 meteors per hour. The Perseids are known for their fireballs, which are larger bursts of light and color.
