Apex, N.C., Imposes Yearlong Moratorium on Data Centers and Cryptomining
The Apex Town Council in North Carolina has unanimously voted to implement a 12-month moratorium on the development of data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations. This decision follows significant public opposition to a proposed data center project, with residents expressing concerns about the environmental impact, particularly regarding water and energy consumption. The moratorium, effective from April 28, 2026, will allow town officials to study the potential effects of such developments and consider zoning and mitigation strategies.
