United Airlines Flight Diverts to Jacksonville Following Engine Issue
A United Airlines flight, UA2746, traveling from Orlando International Airport to Washington Dulles International Airport, experienced an engine problem and was forced to divert. The Boeing 737-900, registration N66831, was climbing through approximately 24,000 feet when its crew identified an issue with one of its two CFM56 engines. The pilots ceased the climb and opted to divert to Jacksonville, Florida, rather than continuing to Washington or returning to Orlando. The aircraft landed safely on runway 08 at Jacksonville approximately 40 minutes after the climb was stopped, with 179 passengers and six crew members on board. United Airlines confirmed the safe landing and stated that engineers would address the engine issue. A replacement Boeing 737-900, registration N78448, was dispatched to transport the passengers to Washington Dulles, arriving with a delay of about four hours. The original aircraft remained on the ground in Jacksonville for over a day for detailed inspection and potential repairs.
