Okanagan Indian Band Chief Reports 230 Homes Destroyed by Wildfire
Dan Wilson, Chief of the Okanagan Indian Band, announced that approximately 230 homes have been destroyed by the Bradley Creek wildfire near Vernon, British Columbia. This includes 30 homes belonging to band members and about 200 non-band homes on leased land. The fire, described by Wilson as leaving the area looking like a 'war zone,' has been one of the most devastating events in the band's history. The wildfire, which started late Friday, was exacerbated by winds gusting up to 115 kilometers per hour, forcing some residents to evacuate with only five minutes' notice.
