ICE Agents Attempt to Arrest Australian Citizen at Las Vegas Airport Amidst Public Scrutiny
An incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and an Australian citizen, Phu Nguyen, occurred at Las Vegas' Harry Reid International Airport. Nguyen, a 57-year-old Australian citizen born in Vietnam, was tackled and handcuffed by plain-clothes ICE agents. The arrest attempt was captured on video and shared on social media, showing Nguyen protesting his treatment and claiming he had a ticket to board a flight. The situation escalated when bystanders began questioning the agents' actions, prompting them to abandon the arrest attempt. According to the Department of Homeland Security, Nguyen was identified as an illegal alien who had overstayed his visa, which expired in May 2015. He was later arrested at Los Angeles International Airport and is currently detained at the Adelanto ICE Processing Centre in California. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is reportedly making inquiries into the situation.
