Magen David Adom Celebrates 96 Years of Lifesaving Service Amidst Ongoing Challenges
Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel's national emergency medical service, is marking its 96th anniversary. Established in 1930 in Tel Aviv, MDA has grown from a small emergency aid organization into a comprehensive service provider, operating ambulances, intensive care units, medevac helicopters, and a national dispatch system. The organization also manages the National Blood Services and the National Human Milk Bank. MDA has been pivotal in responding to Israel's emergencies, including wars, terrorist attacks, and natural disasters. Recently, on October 7, 2023, MDA teams were among the first responders to attacks across the country, working under dangerous conditions to treat and evacuate the wounded. Despite the loss of some personnel during these operations, MDA continues to expand its training programs, equipping citizens with first aid and CPR skills to enhance community resilience.
