Winston Law Hosts Gala to Celebrate Legal Education Access and Honors Civil Rights Legacy
The University of Tennessee Winston College of Law, in collaboration with the Black Law Students Association, held the 2026 Julian Blackshear Jr. Scholarship Gala. This annual event celebrates the college's commitment to expanding access to legal education and the legal profession. Named after Julian Blackshear Jr., a pioneering alumnus and civil rights attorney, the gala supports a scholarship fund that has been sustained by alumni, faculty, staff, and community partners. This year's event featured Iké Adeyemi, senior vice president and chief legal officer of Eastman Chemical Company, as the keynote speaker. Adeyemi emphasized the role of law in driving social change. Additionally, the R.B.J. Campbelle Jr. Award was posthumously presented to Rudolph V. McKamey, a Knoxville attorney and civil rights advocate, recognizing his contributions to equality and justice.
