Southern California Heat Wave Peaks Through Sunday, Elevated Risks Persist
Southern California is experiencing a prolonged heat wave, with temperatures peaking through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Highs are expected to range from the 90s to low 100s in valley areas, with the Antelope Valley reaching over 100°F (37.8°C). Coastal areas will see slightly cooler temperatures in the 70s to 80s (21-27°C). Muggy conditions are limiting overnight cooling, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Monday. The Santa Barbara Airport recorded a record-high temperature of 95°F (35°C) on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 94°F (34.4°C) set in 2016. The region has faced consecutive heat waves in recent weeks, contributing to dry landscapes and fueling wildfires in parts of California.
