New York Mother in Custody After Newborn Abandoned in ShopRite Bathroom
A 32-year-old New York mother is currently in custody following the abandonment of her newborn baby in an employee bathroom at a ShopRite grocery store in White Plains. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when employees discovered the infant. Emergency medical care was provided at the scene, and the baby was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition. The White Plains Department of Public Safety issued a news release expressing that the circumstances are 'heart-wrenching' and extended thoughts to the infant's recovery. Charges against the mother, who is also a ShopRite employee, are pending as investigators collaborate with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. The newborn has been placed under the care of Child Protective Services.
