Balenciaga Shipyard in Spain Resumes Operations Under New Ownership, Targets Offshore Sector
Balenciaga Shipyard, located in the Basque region of Spain, has resumed operations under the ownership of SAFEEN Drydocks, part of the AD Ports Group. The shipyard, which has a history dating back to 1921, had faced financial difficulties but is now focusing on rebuilding its operations with an emphasis on the offshore sector. The first project under the new ownership is the construction of an offshore support tug. The shipyard aims to leverage its partnership with Masdar, a UAE state-owned renewable energy company, to secure contracts in the offshore wind sector. The acquisition and restart of operations are part of AD Ports' strategy to expand its shipbuilding and repair capabilities in Europe.
