Costa Rica Advances Solar Energy with New 20 MW Plant Connection
The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) has initiated the connection of the Los Tecales photovoltaic solar plant to the national electricity system. Located in Guanacaste, the 20 MW plant is part of a group of five private photovoltaic projects awarded by ICE in 2024, with a combined capacity of 86 MW. This development is part of Costa Rica's renewable energy expansion plan, which aims to add 270 MW of solar capacity by 2026. The strategy is designed to meet growing electricity demand, diversify the generation mix, and enhance energy security amid hydrological variability.
