Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Urges African Leaders and Youth to Embrace Technological Sovereignty
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia has called upon African countries and their youth to prioritize technological sovereignty and actively engage in shaping the continent's digital future. This appeal was made in a message commemorating the 24th African Union Day, where he reaffirmed Ethiopia's historical commitment to African continental integration, from the establishment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to the African Union (AU). Addis Ababa, serving as the diplomatic capital of Africa and home to the AU headquarters, continues to play a pivotal role in advancing continental unity and shared prosperity. As the AU Champion for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Health, Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the critical need for greater African ownership in technological and digital development. He urged governments and young people across Africa to build the necessary skills, foster innovative capacity, and develop technological capabilities to determine their own digital destiny.
