UNEP Launches Small Grants to Boost Climate Resilience in East African Mountain Communities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has initiated the Mountains ADAPT Small Grants Project for 2026, offering financial support to community-based organizations in the East African Community (EAC). These grants, up to USD 30,000, aim to empower local organizations to implement ecosystem-based adaptation initiatives. The project focuses on enhancing climate resilience in mountain regions, which are increasingly vulnerable to climate change impacts such as drought, flooding, and biodiversity loss. The initiative not only provides financial aid but also offers technical assistance, capacity development, and implementation training to ensure sustainable and measurable impacts. Applications are open until September 15, 2026, and the project will support up to 15 community-led projects.
