Frijoles Fire Reaches 15,220 Acres with 42% Containment
The Frijoles Fire in the Santa Fe National Forest has grown to 15,220 acres as of Saturday evening, with containment increasing to 42%, according to the Watch Duty app. The fire expanded by 12 acres since Saturday morning and 34 acres since Friday morning. Fire officials reported that the blaze had 'moderated' by early Saturday, producing minimal smoke on Friday and expecting good air quality over the weekend. However, there remains a 40% chance of rain and scattered thunderstorms, which could potentially cause remaining heat pockets to flare up. Access to the Pecos Wilderness from the Española Ranger District remains closed, along with several roads, trails, and campgrounds. The Santa Fe Community Foundation has launched a fund to support affected communities.
