Arcadia Mayor Charged as Illegal Agent of China, Faces Federal Prosecution
Eileen Wang, the mayor of Arcadia, California, has been charged with acting as an illegal agent for the People's Republic of China (PRC). The U.S. Department of Justice announced that Wang, who was elected to the Arcadia City Council in 2022, has agreed to plead guilty to the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. Wang allegedly worked with PRC officials to promote pro-China propaganda in the U.S. through a website she operated. This case is part of a broader effort by U.S. authorities to counter foreign influence operations that threaten national security.
