Firefighter Issues 'Mayday' During Blaze at Abandoned Independence Mall Amid $100M Redevelopment Plans
A firefighter in Independence, Missouri, issued a 'Mayday' distress call after becoming disoriented during a three-alarm fire at the vacant Noland Fashion Square shopping center. The fire, which broke out early in the morning, required assistance from surrounding fire departments and led to a significant emergency response. The firefighter managed to safely exit the building, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Noland Fashion Square has been vacant for over a decade and is slated for a $100 million redevelopment by Tri-Land Properties, which plans to transform the site into a Price Chopper grocery store. Despite the fire, the developer remains committed to the project, with a spring groundbreaking still on schedule.
