Connecticut Finalizes $53M Federal Disaster Relief for Farmers After Delays
Connecticut has finalized a $53 million federal disaster relief grant for farmers, following a year and a half of delays. The grant is part of the $220 million Farm Recovery and Support Block Grant program, enacted by Congress in December 2024 to aid smaller farming states. The program faced setbacks due to disagreements over terms and a government shutdown. The Connecticut Department of Agriculture is preparing to launch an application portal by early fall, allowing farmers to apply for relief. Eligibility requires a minimum of $500 in disaster-related losses in 2023 or 2024. The first application period is expected to open in September, with payments anticipated six to eight weeks after application.
