Polar Max Project Begins Construction to Enhance Canada's Arctic Capabilities
The Polar Max project, a next-generation icebreaking vessel, has commenced construction as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy. The initiative aims to bolster Canada's Arctic and maritime capabilities by delivering a modern work ship capable of operating in challenging northern conditions. The construction ceremony was attended by representatives from Davie, ALMACO, government authorities, and industry stakeholders. The vessel's hull is being constructed at the Helsinki Shipyard, owned by Davie, while Le Groupe ALMACO is responsible for the interior accommodation spaces. The project is a collaborative effort between Canada and Finland, with significant contributions from Canadian shipbuilders in Québec. The event featured speeches from key dignitaries and showcased full-scale mock-up cabins, providing stakeholders with a tangible perspective on the ship's interior design and functionality.
