Spanish Runner Embarks on Route 66 Journey to Raise Funds for ALS Research
Enric Casacuberta, a 61-year-old from Moià, Barcelona, is set to run the entire length of the historic Route 66 in the United States to raise funds for ALS research. The journey, named Ruta66xELA, spans approximately 4,000 kilometers and is planned to be completed over 150 days, with Casacuberta running daily distances equivalent to half or full marathons. This endeavor is part of the official Route 66 Centennial Commission program, marking the road's 100th anniversary. Casacuberta's motivation stems from the death of a close friend and the need to support ALS research. Funds raised will benefit the Miquel Valls Foundation in Spain and ALS United in the U.S. Casacuberta has sold his car and taken a leave of absence from his job to finance the trip, which will begin on August 29 in Chicago and end on January 25 in Los Angeles.
