San Francisco Officials Arrested During SFO Protest Against ICE Presence
San Francisco city officials, including Board President Rafael Mandelman and Supervisor Connie Chan, along with a California state senator, were arrested at San Francisco International Airport during a May Day protest. The demonstration was organized to oppose the presence of federal immigration agents at airports and to advocate for better working conditions for airport workers. The protest was part of a larger movement demanding higher wages and fully funded healthcare for airport employees. Despite the absence of ICE at SFO, due to the use of private contractors instead of federal employees, the protest highlighted concerns over ICE's actions at other airports. The officials, including state Sen. Josh Becker and former supervisor Jane Kim, were arrested after blocking traffic to the international terminal. They were warned by police to clear the area but chose to remain, leading to their arrest.
