Wildfire Smoke Worsens Air Quality in Midwest, Improves in Northeast
Air quality in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions is improving due to heavy rain and storms, but the Midwest continues to experience dangerous levels of air pollution from wildfire smoke. Over 900 wildfires are burning in Canada, particularly in Manitoba and Ontario, with some fires crossing into Minnesota. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued air quality alerts across New England, while Minnesota faces volatile fire conditions with more than 70,000 acres burned. President Trump has criticized Canada for its forest management and threatened new tariffs in response to the cross-border smoke.
