SIU to Investigate Gupta Connections in South African State Entities
The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) in South Africa has been authorized by President Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate several state entities for connections to the Gupta family. This includes the state-owned diamond mining company Alexkor, as well as major organizations like Eskom, SABC, and SAA. The investigations aim to uncover any corruption, maladministration, or unlawful conduct linked to the Gupta family, who have been implicated in state capture allegations. The SIU will also look into procurement processes and financial transactions to identify any systemic failures and recommend measures to prevent future losses. The findings could lead to criminal prosecutions and civil actions to recover financial losses.
