Parker Terrace Proposes 4-Story Senior Living Apartments in Abilene Amid Parking Concerns
A new 4-story senior living apartment complex, Parker Terrace, has been proposed for a location next to a downtown Abilene bar. The developers presented their plans to Abilene’s Planning and Zoning Commission, seeking approval for the site at 1333 N 6th Street, adjacent to the Peacock Patio bar. The complex is designed to include 44 units, with a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments across four floors. The proposal has raised concerns among local business owners and residents about potential parking issues, as the plan includes only 1.5 parking spaces per unit. Additionally, there are worries about traffic congestion and noise from the nearby bar affecting the senior residents. Despite these concerns, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval, citing the ongoing senior housing shortage. The project will next be reviewed by the city council for final approval.
