Federal Funding Secured for Louisville's Belvedere Overhaul Project
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced additional funding for a significant overhaul of the city's Belvedere. The project received a $5 million grant from the James Graham Brown Foundation. This new grant supplements over $7 million in federal funding previously secured by Republican Senator Mitch McConnell and Democratic Representative Morgan McGarvey. The Kentucky General Assembly has also committed $190 million towards various downtown Louisville projects, including the Belvedere's reimagining. Mayor Greenberg secured an additional $10 million in the city's 2025 fiscal budget and another $10 million in the current year's budget. The new design plans, released last month after extensive community input, emphasize more green space, shade, better connection to the Ohio River, and increased event capacity. The project also aims to address long-standing structural concerns, such as cracks in the parking garage located beneath the Belvedere, which was highlighted in a 2015 city-commissioned report.
