Channel Tunnel Operator Warns of Potential Delays Due to EU Software Issues
Getlink, the operator of the Channel Tunnel, has issued a warning regarding potential delays in the implementation of the biometric phase of the new Entry/Exit System. The delays are attributed to software problems at the European level, which may push the deadline beyond the original date of September 6. This development could affect car passengers using the tunnel, particularly during the busy holiday season. Yann Leriche, the Chief Executive of Getlink, highlighted that the software instability is a significant concern, although the company has invested EUR80 million in preparing its terminals for the new system. Despite these challenges, Leriche noted that current delays in the tunnel are relatively short compared to those at some airports.
