NYPD Denies Escort for NYC First Lady's Controversial Middle East Trip
The NYPD has denied claims from City Hall that it will provide a security escort for Rama Duwaji, wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, on her upcoming trip to Syria and Lebanon. This denial comes after City Hall stated that the NYPD 'strongly' recommended the security detail for Duwaji's personal visit to family in these countries, both listed as 'Do Not Travel' by the U.S. State Department. The NYPD clarified that it does not send officers to such high-risk areas for non-investigative purposes. The trip, scheduled to begin on September 20, has sparked debate over the use of public resources for personal travel.
