USA TODAY Seeks to Unseal Records in Shilo Sanders Bankruptcy Case
USA TODAY has filed a motion to intervene in the bankruptcy case of Shilo Sanders, the son of Colorado football coach Deion Sanders. The motion, filed in Colorado bankruptcy court, aims to unseal court records and prevent the closure of Sanders' upcoming trial to the public. Shilo Sanders filed for bankruptcy in 2023 to discharge an $11.89 million debt resulting from an assault lawsuit. The debt is owed to John Darjean, a former security guard at Sanders' school in Dallas, stemming from a 2015 incident when Sanders was 15. The case has been conducted largely in secret, with numerous documents filed under seal due to protective orders. USA TODAY argues that the public has a right to access these proceedings, as they involve significant public interest and transparency in the judicial process.
