Shipping Industry Reaffirms Support for IMO-Led GHG Emission Reduction Pathway
Major shipping industry associations, including BIMCO, CLIA, ICS, and others, have expressed their continued support for the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships. This comes ahead of the upcoming Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 84) meeting. The industry has invested heavily in alternative fuels and innovative technologies to meet the IMO's 2023 GHG reduction targets. The associations emphasize the importance of a unified global approach to avoid overlapping regional and national decarbonization schemes.
