Honolulu Rail Project Faces Potential Cost Increase Amid Design Changes
The Honolulu rail project, known as the Skyline, is facing potential cost increases due to necessary design changes and possible delays in the city center segment. The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) has identified risks that could raise the total project cost to $10.19 billion, which is $111 million more than the current budget. This comes after a $53 million change order was approved to compensate Hitachi Rail Honolulu JV for delays and contract scope changes. The project, initially estimated at $5 billion, has seen its budget swell to over $10 billion due to various delays and cost overruns.
