Coast Path Closures in South West England Due to Storm Damage
Several sections of the coast path in South West England have been closed following significant storm damage, including cliff falls. Areas affected include Ilfracombe on the north Devon coast, and Shaldon, Sidmouth, and Branscombe on the south coast. In Cornwall, notable cliff falls have occurred at Newquay Fly Cellars and Cligga Point near Perranporth. A geologist from the University of Exeter has attributed the increased risk of cliff collapses to repeated wet winters, which have led to record-breaking rainfall levels throughout the region. The closure in Branscombe, part of the Jurassic Coast, is due to a major landslide that has left holiday chalets precariously positioned on the cliffside.
