Juneau Contractor Agrees to Proposed $350,000 Clean Water Act Settlement
A construction company based in Juneau, Alaska, Duran Construction Company, LLC, is facing a proposed settlement that could require them to pay $350,000 for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act. The U.S. Department of Justice and the State of Alaska have accused the company of dredging and dumping in wetlands without the necessary permits. This case, filed in 2022, follows a history of similar violations by the company, dating back to 2001. The proposed settlement also includes a requirement for the company to remediate the environmental damage caused by their actions. The public has until September 3 to comment on the settlement, and the Justice Department may withdraw if the comments reveal the settlement to be inappropriate.
