Berlin Culture Senator Resigns Amid Antisemitism Fund Scandal
Berlin Culture Senator Sarah Wedl-Wilson has resigned following a scandal involving the improper distribution of 2.6 million euros in public funds intended for projects combating antisemitism. An audit report revealed that these funds were allocated without adequate vetting of the organizations involved, and in some cases, despite warnings from professional officials in the Culture Department. The scandal has drawn sharp political criticism and shaken the city's cultural system, leading to Wedl-Wilson's resignation. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner accepted her resignation, acknowledging her political and personal responsibility, and praised her contributions to strengthening culture and fighting antisemitism in Berlin.
