Former Chicago Housing Authority Director Indicted for Alleged Kickback Scheme
Ryan Ross, the former senior director of asset management for the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), along with Vanessa Rhodes, has been indicted on eight counts of honest services fraud. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced the charges, which allege that Ross funneled millions of dollars in work to a local construction company in exchange for $421,000 in kickbacks. Each count of fraud carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison. The indictment was returned in federal court in Chicago, highlighting a significant breach of trust within the CHA, an organization responsible for providing affordable housing to low-income families in Chicago.
