XellSmart's Parkinson's Cell Therapy Receives FDA Fast Track Designation
XellSmart, a Chinese regenerative medicine company, has been granted Fast Track Designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for XS411, its investigational cell therapy for Parkinson's disease. This designation is awarded to therapies that address serious conditions with unmet medical needs, facilitating closer collaboration with regulators and potentially accelerating the approval process. XS411 is an allogeneic, off-the-shelf therapy designed to transplant healthy neural progenitor cells, capable of developing into dopamine-producing neurons, directly into the brain. Early clinical findings from a Phase I study have shown encouraging results, including improvements in movement, symptom control, and quality of life for participants, with brain imaging suggesting the transplanted cells survived and functioned as intended.
