Vard Secures Major Contract for Deep-Sea Research Vessel with Inkfish
Norwegian shipbuilder Vard, a subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, has signed a significant contract valued at nearly €700 million (US$816 million) to design and construct a deep-sea research vessel for the US-based research organization Inkfish. The vessel, named RV11000, is designed for advanced seafloor mapping, coring, sampling, and submarine operations at depths of up to 11,000 meters. Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2030, the 162-meter-long ship will feature state-of-the-art laboratories and accommodations for up to 130 crew members and researchers. The project highlights Vard's capability to deliver next-generation solutions for deep-sea exploration, emphasizing the strategic importance of the underwater domain for Fincantieri.
