Hiawatha Music Co-Op Cancels Festival Due to Wildfire Smoke Impact
The Hiawatha Music Festival, held in Marquette, Michigan, was canceled over the weekend due to deteriorating air quality caused by wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota. The festival, which began on Friday, was halted on Saturday and Sunday after the Hiawatha Music Co-Op assessed the situation. The decision was made following consultations with the National Weather Service and feedback from musicians, vendors, volunteers, and festival leaders. The Co-op emphasized its commitment to deliberation and collective judgment in decision-making, pausing programming on Saturday evening under the advice of its first-aid coordinator. By Sunday, the decision to cancel was supported by ongoing adverse conditions.
