North Dakota Ranks Among Best States for Having a Baby in 2026 Due to Affordability
A recent analysis by WalletHub has ranked North Dakota as the third-best state for having a baby in 2026, primarily due to its affordability. The study evaluated all 50 states and Washington, D.C. across 31 factors, including childbirth costs, quality of health care, and family support policies. North Dakota's low average cost for a conventional delivery, approximately $9,700, significantly contributed to its high ranking. In contrast, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida were ranked as the worst states for having a baby. The analysis highlights the increasing costs associated with childbirth and raising children, with the average cost of raising a child to age 18 now exceeding $300,000.
