Millions Face Flood Threat as Storms Hit Plains, Midwest
A multiday flash flood threat is developing across the Plains and Midwest as a retreating heat dome fuels rounds of thunderstorms from Thursday into Friday. A powerful disturbance will pull moisture northward, creating conditions for repeated heavy downpours across South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, and Missouri. Some areas could receive more than 3 inches of rain, increasing flooding risks where storms repeatedly track over the same locations. The system will also bring relief from extreme heat.
