University of Evansville Expands Latino Outreach with Mental Health Programs
The University of Evansville is enhancing its support for the Latino community through initiatives focused on mental health, education, and culturally competent care. These efforts are part of the ChangeLab program, which was launched in 2020 to address healthcare and education needs while fostering trust within the community. A recent highlight was a mental health workshop for Latino adolescents and their families, held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Evansville. The workshop, led by Dr. Cindy Crowe and Dr. Jennifer Braun, focused on self-esteem and communication, providing resources in a culturally affirming environment. Additionally, ChangeLab received a $3,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Evansville to fund interpretation services at the clinic, ensuring language is not a barrier to receiving mental health support. The initiative also includes presentations on Latino healthcare and mental health at Deaconess Midtown Hospital.
