Old Farmer’s Almanac Predicts Cooler Fall for New York
The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released its extended fall forecast for 2026, predicting a mix of cooler and wetter conditions across New York. Western and central regions, including Buffalo, Rochester, and the Southern Tier, are expected to experience near-normal or slightly drier-than-normal precipitation. Northeastern areas, such as the Capital Region, Adirondacks, and upper Hudson Valley, may see wetter-than-usual conditions. Meanwhile, New York City and Long Island are forecasted to have cooler and drier-than-normal weather. The Almanac bases its predictions on solar science, climatology, and meteorology, claiming an accuracy rate of about 80%, though some experts suggest it may be closer to 50%. Fall officially begins with the autumnal equinox on September 22, 2026, but meteorological fall starts on September 1.
