Flash Flood Emergency Strikes Northern Foothills of North Carolina
A flash flood emergency unfolded late Saturday night into early Sunday morning across the Northern Foothills of North Carolina, including areas such as Pilot Mountain, Mount Airy, and King. Torrential downpours brought 5 to 10 inches of rain in a narrow band, causing the Ararat River to crest at nearly 29 feet, reaching major flood stage. Water rescues were conducted overnight as homes flooded, roads washed out, and motorists became stranded. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Virginia, reported that while the river is now receding, many roads remain impassable due to water and debris. Additional rainfall is expected through early Monday morning, potentially exacerbating the situation.
