EF-1 Tornado Confirmed in New York Following Severe Storms
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado touched down in New York's Southern Tier during recent severe storms. The tornado, which began near Sanford, caused tree and minor structural damage across Broome and Delaware counties. It reached peak winds of 95 mph and caused significant damage to trees, power lines, and some structures, including a home and a vehicle. The tornado's path included multiple crossings of state Route 17 and ended near Peas Eddy Road. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported, and the storm survey is still considered preliminary.
