Trump Administration to Close Five U.S. Diplomatic Missions to Cut Costs
The Trump administration has announced plans to close five smaller U.S. diplomatic missions, including the embassy in Grenada and consulates in Nagoya, Japan, and Medan, Indonesia. Additional closures include the American Presence Post in Winnipeg, Canada, and an embassy branch office in Douala, Cameroon. These closures are part of a cost-saving measure expected to save approximately $4.4 million annually. The affected missions employ relatively few staff compared to other U.S. diplomatic posts. This move comes as the administration also plans to reopen embassies in Libya, Syria, and Venezuela.
