ReCAAP and Shipping Industry Collaborate to Combat Piracy in Asia
The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre (ISC) held a dialogue with the shipping industry to address piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. From January to June 2026, 35 incidents were reported, a 64% decrease from the previous year. The dialogue focused on best practices to deter unauthorized boardings and armed attacks, including ship-specific risk assessments and vessel hardening measures. Participants also discussed the use of technology, such as AI cameras and digital platforms, to enhance maritime domain awareness and improve risk assessment.
