Abramorama Acquires 'Miss Representation: Rise Up' Documentary Addressing Women's Mental Health and Online Misogyny
Abramorama has acquired the North American distribution rights for 'Miss Representation: Rise Up,' a documentary directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The film explores the mental health crisis affecting women and girls, exacerbated by the proliferation of AI deepfakes and the online 'manosphere,' which contribute to sexism and misogyny. The documentary, a follow-up to Newsom's 2011 film 'Miss Representation,' premiered at the Tribeca Festival in June. It features insights from prominent figures such as Hillary Rodham Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Amy Klobuchar, and Jameela Jamil, and highlights young women actively pushing back against these issues. The film is scheduled to premiere at the IFC Center in New York City on October 22, followed by a broader theatrical release across North America, aiming for Oscar qualification.
