Springfield Public Schools Initiate Laptop Restoration Following Cyberattack, Seek Federal Aid
Springfield Public Schools have begun the phased restoration of student laptops after a cyberattack disrupted network servers and computer systems. The attack, which occurred just before Labor Day weekend, led to the cancellation of classes for four days and left the schools without email, phones, or access to records. While essential operations like email, phones, and access to medical and food service records have been partially restored, teachers have largely relied on textbooks and traditional methods. The School Department's IT staff, supported by city computer department employees and cybersecurity consultants, are now reimaging thousands of student and staff laptops to ensure a clean reset and enhanced security.
