Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls to Close South Africa Campus in 2027
Oprah Winfrey's Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa will close its boarding school after the 2027 academic year. The academy, which opened in 2007, was established to provide educational opportunities to academically talented girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. Since its inception, the school has graduated over 1,000 students, many of whom have pursued successful careers in various fields. Despite the closure of the boarding school, the organization plans to continue its mission through a broader initiative aimed at expanding educational opportunities for young women across South Africa. This transition will involve returning the campus to South Africa's Gauteng Department of Education, as per the original partnership agreement.
