California Man Rescued After 30 Days Stranded in Pacific Ocean
A California man named Kai Sato was rescued after being stranded at sea for 30 days. Sato's sailboat lost its mast, his phone died, and he ran out of fuel, leaving him adrift about 900 miles from Hawaii. He had set out from Catalina Island on June 7 for a solo Pacific crossing. After his mast broke and his phone failed, Sato attempted to return to shore but ran out of fuel. He survived by improvising repairs and collecting condensation for water. His diet consisted of oatmeal and sea life that landed on his boat. A container ship, the M/V George III, eventually spotted his distressed vessel and rescued him. Sato expressed immense gratitude to the crew for saving his life.
