Disney-Owned ABC Files Lawsuit Against FCC Chairman Brendan Carr Over License Review
Disney-owned ABC has initiated legal action against Brendan Carr, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, accuses Carr of misusing his regulatory authority to target speech and media organizations that are critical of President Trump. This legal challenge comes in response to the FCC's unusual decision to demand an early review of ABC's broadcast licenses, which ABC claims is based on flimsy grounds. The company asserts that the FCC has launched a 'retaliatory campaign against ABC for a single reason: It disapproves of what ABC broadcasts,' including content from Jimmy Kimmel, 'The View' hosts, and ABC News reporting. This move by Disney follows a period where other media companies, including CBS and NBC, had previously settled lawsuits or made donations to avoid conflict with the Trump administration. Disney itself paid $15 million to settle a defamation lawsuit in December 2024.
